Ahlulbayt University held its 21st annual Husseini Poetry Festival under the theme "The Glory of the Companions of the Martyrs: Recorded in Words" on Saturday morning, the 25th of Muharram, 1448 AH (July 11, 2026). The event was attended by a distinguished group of deans and professors from the university, including Dr. Mohsen Al-Qazwini, the university's founder, Dr. Basim Al-Aqabi, the university's Vice President for Administrative Affairs, and several other esteemed deans.

The ceremony began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Sayyid Ali Mohsen Al-Qazwini. Following this, the attendees stood to sing the Iraqi national anthem and then recited Surah Al-Fatihah in remembrance of the martyrs of the Islamic nation and Iraq.

Afterwards, Mr. Mohsen Al-Qazwini delivered a speech in which he praised the poets and writers among the mujahideen who refused to compromise or submit to humiliation and oppressive authorities. He spoke of Da'bal Al-Khuza'i, the poet of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them), who said, "For fifty years, the cross has been on my back, awaiting the one who will crucify me," because he supported Imam Hussein and the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them). He also spoke of the poets who endured the burden of free speech, which they expressed in their poems during the era of the fallen regime, and how they refused to submit to the tyrant. Their fate was martyrdom for the sake of principle and for speaking the truth. He mentioned two examples of martyrs of Husseini poetry: the martyr Ali Al-Ramahi and the martyr Abdul Hussein Abu Shaba'.

Following this, the poets recited their Husseini poems, expressing their love for Hussein and their stand against arrogance and tyranny. Their poems were truly like swords drawn against falsehood.
